Sewerage preventative water ingress work

Dear Amanda,

Sewer renovation in Orchard Close and Greyhound Yard, Sydling St Nicholas

Wessex Water will be carrying out repairs of sewers in Sydling St Nicholas after our investigations to assess the condition of the network.

This work is part of a programme of investment sewer renovation in and around the village which will help to protect the environment, preventing foul water escaping and groundwater entering sewers, which can lead to flooding or storm overflows automatically discharging into rivers or the sea if the system becomes overwhelmed.

You can read more about the work we’re carrying out to protect the environment at wessexwater.co.uk/overflows

We will be carrying out the work in the village in stages, starting with an initial phase on two roads between Monday 2 February and Friday 6 March 2026.

Most of the repairs will be carried out using ‘no-dig’ techniques, which are quicker and less intrusive than replacing the pipe in a conventional manner.

  • Monday 2 – Friday 13 February 2026 – There will be some carriageway incursion on Orchard Close, with No Waiting cones deployed on either side of the road.
  • Monday 23 February – Friday 6 March 2026: There will be some carriageway incursion on Greyhound Yard.

There may be some noise disruption while this work is carried out, but every effort will be made to keep this to a minimum and complete the work as quickly as possible.

Water and sewerage services can be used as normal unless we advise otherwise.

We will shortly be writing to customers on these roads to advise them about this work and I attach a copy of that letter for your information.

We will also write to you again to share details of the wider programme of sewer rehabilitation in Sydling St Nicholas – and how we will be communicating with local customers - once those details have been finalised.

In the meantime, should you have any further questions about this work, please do not hesitate to contact me via this email address.

Yours faithfully,

Vishal Sukkala.
